Hours after his disappointing performance in the United States presidential election debate, President Joe Biden slammed those who criticised his age.
In his fiery speech, he vowed to his supporters that he would win re-election in November amid rising concerns over his candidature among the Democrats.
“I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious,” Biden, said during a rally in North Carolina on Friday (June 28), a day after he struggled to debate with his Republican rival Donald Trump.
“I don’t walk as easy as I used to… I don’t debate as well as I used to,” he conceded. “But I know what I do know, I know how to tell the truth [and] I know how to do this job,” he said.
“I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done. I know what millions of Americans know: When you get knocked down, you get back up,” Biden said.
The 81-year-old president said that “as a Biden that I wouldn’t run again if I didn’t believe with all my heart and soul I could do this job”, amid the crowd chanting “four more years” and “Yes you can!” in Raleigh.
Biden, repeating a line from the presidential debate, said, “I spent 90 minutes on a stage debating a guy who has the morals of an alley cat. I think he [Trump] set a new record for the number of lies told at a single debate.”

Speaking at a rally in Virginia, Trump hailed his “big victory” in the debate and called Biden ‘grossly incompetent’.
“Did anybody last night watch a thing last night called a debate? That was a big one. But as you saw on television last night, we had a big victory against a man that is really looking to destroy our country,” said Trump.
“Despite the fact that crooked Joe Biden spent the entire week at Camp David resting, working, studying; he studied very hard, he studied so hard that he didn’t know what the hell he was doing,” he added.
“Joe Biden’s problem is not his age; it’s not his anything really, he’s got no problem other than it’s his competence, he’s grossly incompetent. You know, they keep saying old, I know people that are much older than him that are doing unbelievable things,” the former president said.

The US Senate voted on Tuesday (April 23) to approve $95bn in aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan — the first two are in a conventional state of war with Russia and Palestinian militant groups, respectively. Meanwhile, Taiwan continues to face China’s expansionist belligerence amid its consistent assertion of the self-ruled island nation being its own.

The Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer described the bill’s successful passage as “one of the greatest achievements the Senate has made in years.”

The US lawmakers have been pressurising ByteDance to sell its stake in TikTok since they fear that TikTok or ByteDance can share data about the users of the United States with the government of China.
The chances of TikTok becoming a trove of data of about millions of US users has left lawmakers worried.
TikTok, in a statement, said that it is “unfortunate” that lawmakers are “using the cover of important foreign and humanitarian assistance to once again jam through a ban bill that would trample the free speech rights of 170 million Americans, devastate 7 million businesses, and shutter a platform that contributes $24 billion to the U.S. economy, annually.”

After the bill is signed by Biden, ByteDance will have 270 days to sell TikTok. In this case, if it appears that ByteDance is near divestment at the end of its nine-month period, an additional 90 days can be authorised by the president to finalise the deals.

Ives, however, hinted that ByteDance is not likely to sell TikTok with its core algorithms as well as the important software that gives video recommendations to users based on their interests.
“The value of TikTok would dramatically change without the algorithms and makes the ultimate sale/divestiture of TikTok a very complex endeavour, with many potential strategic/financial bidders waiting anxiously for this process to kick off,” said Ives, in a research note.
How will other social media platforms benefit from the ban? If the bill becomes a law, TikTok’s rivals like Meta are likely to benefit from it. According to Wedbush Securities analyst, nearly 60 per cent of TikTok users are likely to shift to Meta’s Instagram and Facebook if a ban is imposed on TikTok. Google is also likely to benefit from this ban.
United States President Joe Biden extended an ‘ironclad’ commitment to Israel against any Iranian attack amid rising concerns of Tehran launching “significant” strikes in the coming days in response to the blast at the Iranian consular building in Damascus.
Biden spoke about the commitment in a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
“We also want to address the Iranian threat to launch a significant – they’re threatening to launch a significant attack in Israel,” said Biden.
“As I told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel’s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad. Let me say it again, ironclad. We’re gonna do all we can to protect Israel’s security,” he added.
“What I’m calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire, allow for the next six, eight weeks, total access to all food and medicine going into the country,” said the president.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration also clarified that Iran cannot assume that the US forces, which have been significantly reinforced in Gaza since the war started, will stay out if there is any escalation in conflict between them and Israel.
Iran threatens to strike Israel, Tel Aviv vows a response
The United States pledged support to Israel hours after Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened to strike Israel in response to the Damascus bombing.
“When they attacked our consulate area, it was like they attacked our territory,” Khamenei said in his remarks which were broadcast by Iranian state TV. “The evil regime must be punished, and it will be punished,” he added.
In the Damascus bombing, 12 people were killed which included Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Gen Mohammad Reza Zahedi and six other guard members.
Responding to such threats of direct strike, Israel vowed to respond to any such strike which increased the chances of a regional war.
Taking to X, Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said, “If Iran attacks from its territory, Israel will respond and attack Iran.”
Israel has not formally claimed responsibility for the Damascus bombing. However, since the blast happened, Iran has attributed the ultimate blame for the blast to the United States and warned them not to meddle in its confrontation with Israel.
