Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snow says he plans to sue the Liberian Government over what he calls a false and damaging statement.
The threat follows a May 24, 2025 release from the Ministry of Information. In it, the government condemned Snowโs remarks on SPOON TALK, where he reportedly said he wished President Boakaiโs administration would not succeed.
The statement also accused Snow and others of trying to destabilize the country. It was sent to international partners, including the ECOWAS Parliament, where Snow represents Liberia.
Speaking during a Senate debate on the Cybercrime Bill, Snow said he had formally informed the Senate about the matter, but it has not been addressed.
He did not give a timeline but said he is determined to go to court to defend his name and political future.
President Boakai Establishes Presidential Task Force in Response to U.S. Concerns
June 18, 2025
Executive Mansion, Monroviaโ In response to wide-ranging concerns raised by the Government of the United States, issues which, if left unaddressed could lead to the imposition of a travel ban, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has established a high-level Presidential Task Force to lead a coordinated and cross-sectorial response.
Recognizing that the matters identified span multiple government ministries and agencies, the President will himself Chair the Task Force, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs designated as Co-Chair. The Task Force will include the following key institutions:
โ1.โMinistry of Foreign Affairs โ2.โMinistry of Justice โ3.โMinistry of Health โ4.โMinistry of State for Presidential Affairs โ5.โLiberia National Police โ6.โOffice of the National Security Advisor โ7.โNational Security Agency
The inaugural meeting of the Task Force was convened on June 17, 2025, at the Executive Mansion and chaired by the President.
Present at the meeting were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Justice, Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Minister of State without Portfolio for Special Services, and the National Security Advisor.
Following its initial deliberations, the Task Force has developed a joint multi-sectorial work plan aimed at addressing the concerns comprehensively and with urgency.
Implementation of the work plan will be carried out in close collaboration with the U.S. Government and will be subject to ongoing monitoring and evaluation to ensure accountability and results.
President Boakai highlighted his Administrationโs commitment to upholding good governance, the rule of law, and Liberiaโs longstanding partnership with the United States.
Members of the House of Representatives are considering to Repeal and Amend certain provisions of the Local Government Act of 2018 that will give the county Legislative Caucus oversight responsibility of the county budget and development approval process.
The Bill titled โAn Act To Repeal Section 2.2 Sub-Sectionฬ (e&f) of the Local Government of 2018; was introduced in the House by Hon. Jeremiah Sokan Sr., during the 10th day sitting of the 2nd Quarter of the 2nd Session of the 55th Legislature of Liberia.
According to the Electoral District 1 Grand Gedeh County lawmaker, the exclusion of the county Legislative Caucus involvement in exercising its oversight responsibility undermines the principles of checks and balances as well as hindering effective local governance; something Hon. Sokan believes could lead to the lack of transparency and accountability in the management of the county resources.
The proposed law seeks to Repeal and replace Sub-Section 2.2 (e) โApprove the annual county budget โ and sub-section 2.2(f) โApprove a county development plan and its implementationโ.
Following the reading of the Bill, Plenary instructed the Committees on Good Governance, Ways Means and Finance, Internal affairs and Judiciary to review and advise the body within two weeks.
LIBERIAโ Liberiaโs Vice President Jeremiah Kpang Koung is in China with a team to check on companies selling heavy machinery for Liberiaโs roads.
VP Koung successfully lowered the price for 285 machines from US$43 million to US$22 million. This will help Liberia save money and pay in three easier steps.
The team is also looking closely at the quality and capacity of the machines to make sure Liberia gets the best. Officials from Liberiaโs Public Works, Finance, and Procurement departments are part of the visit.
This visit is a big step toward improving Liberiaโs roads and building a stronger partnership with China.
Barclayville, Grand Kru County โ A commercial motorcyclist in Grand Kru County has returned more than 1 million Liberian dollars and US$5,000 in cash he found lying beside the highwayโan extraordinary act of honesty that has earned him praise from across Liberia.
Abraham David, a former ambulance driver turned commercial bike rider, discovered the money-packed grid bag while traveling along the BarclayvilleโPleebo highway en route to Maryland County. Instead of keeping the money, he reported it to local authorities and worked with police to trace its owner.
The cash was later confirmed to belong to Mark Momo, a well-known businessman based near Hospital Camp Junction in Barclayville, who had been frantically searching for the lost funds. The official handover was conducted in the presence of Liberia National Police officers and journalists.
โI thought I had lost everything,โ Momo said tearfully. โBut this man has given me more than my moneyโheโs restored my trust in people.โ
Davidโs action, at a time of deep economic hardship, has been widely praised as a rare display of integrity. His honesty has since earned him a government job as one of the Superintendentโs drivers under President Joseph N. Boakaiโs administration, following an appointment by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
โThis is the kind of character we need in public service,โ said one local official.
David, who lost his previous government job five years ago, said he never hesitated to do what was right.
โI couldnโt sleep at night knowing someone else was in pain because of what I found,โ he said. โIt was never mine.โ
